President’s Welcome Message

The Ohio Society is a non-profit 503(c)(7) tax-exempt social organization which aims to connect Ohioans and those closely associated with Ohio, either personally or professionally, who are currently living in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.  Our State’s society is a member of the National Conference of State Societies and serves as a networking, service, and social organization for individuals of all ages.

The Ohio Society was founded in 1910 when fellow Ohioan, William Howard Taft, was in the White House.  The Society was formed as non-partisan organization and was intended to be more social than political and would offer former Ohio residents living in Washington, DC a chance to, “enlarge the acquaintanceship of Ohioans.”  The founding of the Ohio Society was greeted with much fanfare and was covered by Washington Post.  In 2010 The Ohio Society celebrated the 100th birthday of the Society, and while continuing to to honor its rich tradition.

Throughout the year the Ohio Society hosts and sponsors several events.  Specifically The Ohio Society are sponsors of the Ohio Birthday Party, a large reception held every March; a Summer Social held every June; and a Congressional Winter Reception usually held in December on Capitol Hill.  Additionally The Ohio Society hosts many events ranging from happy hours to our annual summer picnic and fall Potomac cruise.  Furthermore The Ohio Society sponsors at least one charitable event each year and participates in the Cherry Blossom Festival.

The Ohio Society holds monthly planning meetings and welcome all who wish to volunteer their time to assist us in hosting events and recruiting new members whose support is vital for our success.
